- Modern Warfare 2: Good single-player campaign, and awesome (although unbalanced) multiplayer experience. It is here because it started the path the franchise will be on today and I also have fond memories of playing online. While the public chat was not for everyone, it made gaming more social.
- Black Ops 2: The story, the Zombies, and the multiplayer were all great. The scorestreak system feels awesome. It was futuristic but still retained the CoD feel. This is the pinnacle of the series to me because Treyarch learned everything that was missing on the first black ops.
- Black Ops 1: The 1970s cold war setting sold the SP alone for me, and the easter eggs were amazing. The extra minigames like the contra one among other old school stuff, and the code input to unlock new content. It's like going back to the 8-16bit era. You got a lot of stuff for free that are usually lock under a DLC or loot boxes in today's gaming.

2. Modern Warfare 2: AMAZING multiplayer.
3. Modern Warfare 2: really fun Spec Ops coop mode.
now please give me the remaster on my console..
- #4
2. Black Ops 1 great single player and multiplayer just needed some more balancing
3. Ghosts just for it's Extinction mode and is Aliens instead of same ol Zombies something fresh and fun. Shame we didn't get another Zombie mode like Extinction.
- #5
2. Infinite Warfare
3. Modern Warfare 2
Infinite Warfare is massively underrated. Superb single player with a good, solid multiplayer. Zombies in Spaceland is fucking brilliant too.

Played the beta after getting a key from a German website by following some random instruction. This was before web browsers did the work for you. Anyway the beta was incredible and it sold me on the game. I loved the additions to the multiplayer and it felt fair and balanced.
2: CoD2
My favourite of the WW2 era CoD games. My first HD game too. Played countless hours on Xbox 360.
3: CoD: United Offensive
Harbour Rifles. Enough said.
A test of skill and everyone had the same loadout, a bolt action rifle and iirc a smoke grenade. One shot would kill. If you ran out of ammo it was who could bash the other person quickest, it was awkward but hilarious as the animations of bashing, jumping and crouching created some real stupid moments.

2- Call of Duty 2
3- Modern Warfare 2
COD4 basically perfected the COD formula. The single player campaign was fun as hell and the multiplayer was great, and COD4 didn't devolve into the killstreak fest that the later games became. COD2 was basically the perfect WW2 Call of Duty game. Modern Warfare 2 is where the franchise jumped the shark and shit got too insane with killstreaks and what not, but the game was still plenty of fun

2. BLOPS 2 (Wii U, online was free and very much playable)
3. COD MW2 (Played waaaay too much of it on 360)
Bonus Cods: COD 1+2+3

Black Ops 2- I really dig choices in the story mode.
Infinite Warfare- A great muliplayer and interesting campaign.
- #11
I play cod just for zombies.
Can't wait for the next one this year.
Played lots of zombies with friend coop in my teens and still do with my sister, and i just love the arcade like gameplay. Also richtofen, takao, dempsey & nikolai are da best.
- #12
MW2 - Broken, but insanely addictive multiplayer, absolutely loved it.
BO1 - Different, but solid multiplayer and was my first experience with Treyarch. Since Infinity Ward fell apart, I now only trust Treyarch COD games. The other devs don't have what it takes.
- #13
Black Ops 1: I knife in gun game
CoD 4: best campaign.
- #14
2. Call of Duty: Black Ops - Good campaign and super solid multiplayer.
3. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare - Campaign is awful, but I really liked the multiplayer.Honorable mentions
Call of Duty - For a CS 1.6 noob, this was my go to LAN-shooter with friends.
Call of Duty 2 - Only played a couple of hours at a friends house, but the campaign (the russian mission, I think?) blew my friggin' mind.
Dishonorable mention
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare - By far and away the worst CoD maps I played in multiplayer. Did not care much for the campaign.
Those are basically all the CoD's I have played. Oh yeah, WaW on Wii, too.
- #15
Modern Warfare 2
Black Ops 2
Mainly was the series I started with when I got my X360 and played with friends. Like you it was me first true social interaction in MP using XBL aside from my time playing the network access disc/Area 51 MP.
I was just unfiltered fun with many questionable bullshit but still fun ^_^. We used to do quickscope lobbies and shit on rust. Good times...
Didn't really like COD4 as much when I tried it.
Black Ops 2 was probably the last time my and friends played COD extensively and MP was generally fun like the MW2 days.
SP MW2 was good don't remember Black Ops 2 much.
- #16
First big online experience I had with console gaming. Me and a bunch of online friends getting together and playing nearly every night. Campaign was really good with barely a dull moment, and a phenomenal multiplayer where nearly every map was great.
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Not as good as the above but still carried a lot of the same experiences. More of the maps were mediocre and wasn't a fan of the killstreaks introduction. Though emblem customisation based on in-game achievements was a neat touch.
3. Call of Duty 1
One of the first online games I got into. A natural progression after playing a hell of a lot of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Really good single player that felt 'realistic' (i.e. surrounded by comrades rather than doing it all alone) and multiplayer features I'd never considered like the killcam.
Never played CoD 2 unfortunately. I assume it would challenge that number 3 spot if I had.
- #17
2. Call of Duty WW2
3. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (lowered since Remastered was a piece of shit, not graphics wise)
- #18
2. MW1: A defining moment in FPS SP and MP. The SP is really slick and cool and the MP is as fun as ever. Like I said before I think the maps are just a little bland though there are a couple standouts.
3. Call of Duty 1: The campaign really shines for me in this one. It marked another paradigm shift from lone wolf campaigns in other shooters to the slogan of 'No One Fights Alone' as you accomplish missions with a squad or entire armies. You have multiple legendary moments but it really shines when you switch to the Russians boating across the Volga with the commissar speech and have to navigate the battlefield with only ammo until you find a rifle and then at the end when you wave the flag over the Reichstag. So damn cool. Great campaign.

COD 2 - The first HD version of COD. An amazing experience and arguably still the best WW2 game to date. It unquestionably established many of the features, elements and mechanics that became franchise staples.
BLOPS - A bold new direction that helped establish Treyarch as the premier COD studio. Zombies was a clever addition to the franchise in WaW but peaked in BLOPS.
Honorable mention: MW2 - arguably the best COD of them all. Especially if you want your action turned up to eleven and throw balance to the wind. I had tons of fun with it. My most played COD. Although it is a deeply flawed game.
- #20
2. CoD 4: Along with 5 the pinnacle of the CoD series.
3. Black Ops: Adopted the bigger scope taken by MW2 and made it better and less unbalanced. Decent maps and fun weapons with one of the best CoD singlepayer campaigns.
- #21
2. Infinite Warfare: don't know why it wasn't as well received. Campaign was great & MP was fun again
3. MW2: pretty much because of spec ops. Rest of the game was a rehash of 4
- #22
2. MW1 -- loved the change to modern setting
3. CoD 2 -- for the SP campaign
(do NOT like the Treyarch games at all, I think they suck)
- #23
they all are about equally bad to be honest, it'd be like asking to pick my top 3 star wars prequels. I liked the IW campaign (mass effect prequel) and BO3 multiplayer wasn't the worst. WW2 is decidedly mediocre in everything, so I guess it has that going for it.
at this rate though i assume Activision is going to remaster all the great classics you guys played so hopefully I can enjoy them too some day. I do have whatever remaster came with IW, still have to play the campaign on that, didn't love the multiplayer.
- #24
2. Call of Duty - The original. One of my first proper FPS experiences, it was just excellent. CoD2 may have evolved the formula excellently but I'll always remember my time with CoD1 fondly.
3. Advanced Warfare: After burning out with MW2 and 3 I didn't touch the series for years. Then a friend made me dive back in with AW and I loved it. It looked and sounded great, had a nice but not intrusive twist on the traditional model and had an excellent campaign.
- #25
2. Infinite Warfare - I've enjoyed every COD campaign, but I really loved the way IW drew me into the story and universe. I really enjoyed the understated (for a COD game) acting and superb audio/visuals.
3. Modern Warfare 2 - I simply couldn't get enough of the multiplayer back in the heyday of MW2. I was mildly addicted until I reached my first prestige. I also really enjoyed the campaign. I remember watching the credits roll for the first time, then immediately starting over on Veteran difficulty and playing through the entire game again over the next few days, something extremely rare for me.
- #26
MW for being the fucking GOAT
third one I don't know, some part of Black Ops I guess?
shit-tier: infinite, advanced, mw3, 3 (the worst); didn't play ghosts and ww2
- #27
The MW series
Overall in no order
MW
MW2
Ghosts
- #28
1. Black Ops 1.
2. Infinite Warfare
3. Advanced Warfare
Honorable mentions:
Modern Warfare 1 and 2.
WW2.
Black Ops 2
World At War
- #29
- #30
CoD 4 - Took the series into modern times. It also was fun as hell to play.
MW2 - The sequel to COD 4. Everything was just perfect about it.
I will admit that although I have played every entry in the series, I have not really paid attention for years now like I once did. So I am the equivalent to the old man on the porch rocking back and forth in my chair claiming everything was better back in the day.
- #31
Black Ops 2 - Single Handedly got me to come back to CoD after IW ruined it due to their constant need to add game breaking perks and guns. It was very grounded and shooting felt great even if it was a bit laggy at times. Best of all, for a shooter you actually spent time shooting at people instead of getting killed from behind or from a killstreak.
MW2 - For Campaign only. It was a crazy thrill ride even if the airport mission is THE worst mission ever made in any game period.
- #32
Kinda wish this got a remaster. Assuming they don't ruin the spawn points like the MW Remaster. I feel like I didn't give it a fair shot because I was still playing 4 often and had the mentality of "I don't need another WWII game right now".1. World at War: I think this game is criminally underappreciated, it's basically CoD 4 set in WW2, 3, 5 and 7 killstreaks, great maps, fun weapons, nice audio and the singeplayer wasn't bad either. Also introduced zombies which was really fun and we know how big that has become (too big). A forgotten gem.
- #33
Other 2 would be (in no order) the original Modern Warfare and World at War.
- #34
Infinite Warfare
Modern Warfare 2
I hated the BLOPS games, thought Advanced Warfare and Ghosts were ok, and thought MW3 and WoW were pretty good. Strictly speaking about the campaigns here and haven't gotten to WW2 yet.
- #35
2. MW2- this was my first pic multiplayer experience in the sense that I actually played for a good amount of time. The M4 was my baby and I still miss this. I want a remaster of this just because I think the imbalance ruins it's legacy for play today. Also, the throwing knife scene .I replayed that alone maybe 39 times .
3- Call of Duty 3- ps2 was an experience for multiplayer and I can't imagine my life without it. This made shooters feel real to me. I think about it often. Bland as it may be now, I still appreciate this games' impact on my life .
- #36
2. Modern Warfare
3. Infinite Warfare
- #37
1. Call Of Duty 2 - Sold me on a Xbox 360, and was released at a time when Band Of Brothers was huge. Replayed the campaign probably ten times.
2. Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - It was just cool as fuck.
3. Call Of Duty: Black Ops - All the sneaky sneaky black ops missions we're cool, and I really liked the setting and era.
- #38
- #39
Black Ops 2
MW/COD2
Playing Black Ops 2 right now :)
- #40
COD 1 & UO
COD WaW
I can only real talk about the SP/campaigns since I don't play multiplayer often. Call of Duty 2 was the first one I ever played and I guess its just nostalgia. At the time, I remember the gameplay being pretty solid, with some good ideas. I've been playing through it again actually and it's still fun. I can't say anything about it stands out but it's still enjoyable. I played CoD 1 & UO sometime after and I enjoyed the Band of Brothers vibe I got from them. In fact, two missions in UO are basically condensed video game versions of two episodes from the BoB miniseries. I played through 3, 4, MW2, WaW, and Black Ops, and the only ones that stuck with me are 4 and WaW. I remember 4 looking great, playing great, the multiplayer was revolutionary, and it had a campaign that was way too short. I remember WaW being over-the-top and I enjoyed the change of scenery compared to the European setting of many prior WW2 games or modern warfare setting that was rampant at the time.
- #41
2. Modern Warfare - Just a hair behind number 2 in everything.
3. Blops 3 - I just really enjoyed the multiplayer, it was probably my favorite multi since MW2 by far.
- #42
2. COD2
3. Modern Warfare
Lack of bolt action rifles in Modern Warfare ended my competitive COD days, and kill streak garbage made me grow tired of hanging out in pub servers.
- #43
Years ahead of its time, defined what COD became, my first COD.
Black Ops 1
Most innovative COD by far, great maps and gunplay, wager matches, fun game modes, introduced theater mode, introduced emblem creation, best killstreaks of any cod game (in terms of variety and balance).
Black Ops 3
It was close out of this one and WaW, but Black Ops 3 actually made me enjoy Jetpacks on cod, this is the most well-balanced COD game of all, maps were great, gameplay was even better.
(Note this is all from a Multiplayer standpoint)
- #44
Black Ops 2 - Campaign was disappointing but the multi was a good follow-up to BLOPS1. Cool weapons/gadgets and great maps.
MW2 - Amazing single player and multi was really good. The streaks were a little too hectic for me though.
- #45
Call of Duty 2: Unrivalled in my mind in the series. Plays unlike the newer games and is all the better for it. Slowly advancing on enemy lines while popping guys with single shot rifles and throwing smoke grenades the whole way. Playing through COD2 on the hardest difficulty was a joy and made it my first 1000/1000 achievements game.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare: Revolutionised multiplayer and still fully holds up today. Great single player campaign, great multiplayer maps. Great.
Black Ops: Just a fantastic campaign and a multiplayer that, while not as good as COD4, still hadn't reached the point of later COD games that I just don't like anymore.
- #46
Black Ops 2 - Really great MP maps
Advanced Warfare - Loved the mobility mechanics introduced here, and still think it's the only future title that implemented them well (wasn't a fan of how the proceeding titles pared it back). Great campaign and MP maps.
- #47
2. Call of Duty WWII - Sniping never felt so good since BO2, amazing maps, era
3. Black Ops 3 - Fast pacing and the Specialists was phenomenal
- Oct 25, 2017
- 33,137
- Boise
- #48
2) AW - Fun campaign, awesome multiplayer
3) CoD4 - Where it all started
- #49
Black Ops - Had the best campaign/MP combo of any COD games imo.
Infinite Warfare - I didn't love the MP, but I thought the campaign was really fun and I liked the fact that they experimented with the structure a bit to make it not feel so linear
- #50
2: Black Ops 2 (It's fun)
3. Black Ops 3 (It's fun)
